April 11 – May 9, 2020 at the Ronald F. Peierls Theatre on the Second Stage
THEATRE THREE proudly presents The Twenty-Third Annual Festival of One-Act Plays, from April 11 through May 9, 2020, at The Ronald F. Peierls Theatre, on the Second Stage. Selected from over 250 submissions world-wide, these six cutting-edge premieres are guaranteed to entertain and engage.
The evening opens with Philip Darg’s Confessions of a Successful Playwright, a hilarious look at One-Act Festivals(!). The Turn-Around, by Cary Pepper, addresses one of today’s hot button issues from a wickedly humorous point-of-view. The first half closes with a brutal take on the opioid crisis in Joshua Young’s darkly disturbing Bad China.
The second part of the bill opens with Benign Departures, Tony Pasqualini’s vision of a future national health crisis from a catastrophic perspective. Ariana Rose’s The Beat Goes On takes a peek at what goes on inside a display case at the Smithsonian, as various musical containers vie for superiority. The evening closes with Frank Trangredi’s Play Date, a whimsical and charming look at fatherhood from two very different perspectives.
Playwrights Cary Pepper and Arianna Rose have each had one production produced in THEATRE THREE’s Festival. Pepper was represented in 2011 with Finding Love@.Com and Rose with last season’s Family By Numbers. Frank Tangredi marks his record-breaking sixth Festival play; his five previous works were Of Dogs and Dolphins (2000); Along the Faultline (2006); Useless Information (2010); Solitary (2011); and Peck (2014).
The company features veteran one-act performers Steve Ayle, Nicole Bianco, Antoine Jones, Phyllis March Steven Uihlein, and Steve Wangner are joined by Festival newcomers Bradlee Bing, Sari Feldman, and Eric J. Hughes, and, in his THEATRE THREE debut, Josh Diolosa. Marking his twenty-second Festival (and over one hundred plays), the evening is directed by Festival founder and Executive Artistic Director Jeffrey Sanzel.
