Frosty – The John W. Engeman Theater – Children’s Theatre Review

Frosty at the John W. Engeman Theater
By Jessica Kennedy.

“Frosty the Snowman is a fairy tale they say,” but he is alive and well at the Engeman Theater in Northport!  Directed by Jennifer Collester, this classic wintertime tale is playing from November 23rd-December 29th!

This version of Frosty’s story follows Jenny (Katie Dolce) as she seeks a friend to play in the snow with in her hometown of Chillsville. She makes a snowman with her Mayor Mom (Nicole Weitzman), and places a scarf around his neck for warmth. From there, Frosty (Dylan Poulos) comes to life and the fun begins!  Add a perfectly evil nemesis (Sari Feldman) and a comedic Narrator (Jessica Gray), and you have the makings of a great time for all ages!

The cast does a nice job of making this show fun and interactive!  Gray is sweet and energetic as the Narrator- encouraging the audience to join in and help Frosty and Jenny defeat the devious Ethel Pierpot.  Sari Feldman’s version of the villain is a hit! The kids are encouraged to devise plans to defeat her, and her exaggerated laughs and sneezes keep the kids laughing.  Each character is dynamic and entertaining; they move the scenes along quickly to keep the younger audience members engaged. The cast also does a nice job of utilizing the props from the Engeman’s mainstage show, Matilda, incorporating giant letter blocks into the scenes and songs to spell out words and  keep the adult viewers amused.

Frosty is a timeless character who is known and beloved by all!  With the memorable songs and interactive elements, this show will surely be a hit with anyone who wants to get into the holiday spirit!

Running time is approximately 90 minutes with one 15 minute intermission.
Frosty is playing until December 29th. The theater is located at 250 Main St. Northport, NY. For tickets contact the box office at (631) 261-2900 or click here.
