Currently playing in the intimate setting of Independence Studio on 3 until June 10th is Tell Me On A Sunday. A one-woman musical that is fun and sassy with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this show is one worth a viewing.

Tell Me On A Sunday describes the story of Girl (Julia Udine), a young English woman who has traveled to the United States in search of love in the 1980s. Girl encounters numerous men in her search, and although they may not pan out to be what she hopes they will, she experiences a period of self-enlightenment through each heartbreak, emerging from the end of her painful journey as a new woman. Girl travels between Muswell Hill (England), New York City, Los Angeles, and back to New York City.  Between songs, conversations, and letters to her mum, the story unfolds from her relationship with a cheater, then a Hollywood producer, next a salesman, and finally an older married man. Beautiful musical numbers describe the relationships and lessons learned as time proceeds and she is left heartbroken and unsatisfied, yet all the more self-aware.

Julia Udine plays the part of Girl, and she does it exceedingly well. Formerly seen on Broadway as Christine Daaé in Phantom of the Opera, she undoubtedly entertains the voice and talent necessary to maintain a charmed, engaged audience for an hour without pause. She brings the naïve nature of Girl to the stage and transforms her story into one that is appealing and valuable.

The music in Tell Me On A Sunday brings it to life, and is the main outlet through which the story is told. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s contribution of music with lyrics by Don Black, brings this show its prestige. Ryan Touhey’s (Pianist) skills and presence off to the side of the stage with scoffs and complimentary props add to the humor of the story. Roman Tatarowicz’s scenic design exudes the perfect combination of 80s and Barbie pink, with gold lights blinking on and off throughout, making the show pleasing to all eyes and ears. With the costume design (Sarah Mitchell) and props, the 80s come to life and bring another layer to the show – nostalgia! Music, lyrics, set design, and costuming create greatness all around.

Tell Me On A Sunday brings a night of fun and flash to Independence Studio on 3, and lovers of romance and young adventures will be more than satisfied to view such an enjoyable show.
