PREVIEW: Fall 2017, Broadway Philadelphia at The Kimmel Center

As autumn falls upon Philadelphia, so too does an exciting group of musicals. Tickets are currently available and you will wish to get them soon, as these productions are award–winning, incredibly reputable shows.  If the show itself has not yet won an award, contributors have. With artists from Cyndi Lauper to Alice Walker and Andrew Lloyd Webber, each show this season is sure to bring you pristine combinations of story and music.

 

The Academy of Music:

Kinky Boots, October 3 – October 8
Based on the British movie Kinky Boots (2005), this show is a six-time Tony Award-winner. Know Cyndi Lauper? With Lauper’s contribution of music and lyrics, more than just girls will have fun at this popular musical experience. Join Charlie and Lola as they take you from Northampton to Milan while intriguing you with their award-winning music and choreography.

The Phantom of the Opera, November 1 – November 12
On a new North American Tour, Phantom of the Opera is gracing our city this coming November.  Come hear favorites such as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Music of the Night” and “Masquerade” as you watch Christine Daae’ fall in love, perhaps more than once. Phantom is a must-see for any lover of music and beautiful stories.

Finding Neverland, November 21 – November 26
Rediscover the child inside you as you view Finding Neverland. This musical is based on the Academy Award-winning film starring Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp. A tale of the playwright J.M. Barry as he writes the story of Peter Pan, this moving story is sure to tug at some heartstrings.

Forrest Theatre:

The Color Purple, December 12 – December 17
Philadelphia holds the privilege of yet another Tony Award-winner (Best Musical Revival!), The Color Purple. Coming to Forrest Theatre in December, this show is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Alice Walker. Taking place in Georgia between 1909 and 1932, audience members will be taken through Celie’s story of triumph and struggle as a black woman living in the South at that time. Enjoy the jazz, gospel, ragtime and blues as you follow her inspiring story.
